HistoryAnjikamo Shrine

Located near the vermilion-lacquered bridge straddling the Chugoku Expressway, this shrine with its large torii gate is known for its blessings for family safety and prosperous business. The shrine was built as the head shrine of Anji Manor, the manor of Kyoto Kamowakeikazu Shrine (Kamigamo Shrine).
Yasushi Inari is enshrined within the shrine grounds, and the goddess Benzaiten is enshrined in the Shin-ike pond, each with numerous brightly colored vermilion-lacquered torii gates. Every New Year's Day, the shrine is crowded with visitors who pass by the large Chinese zodiac decoration on the approach to the shrine. In the fall, a dedication ritual is held, starting with a lion dance ritual, followed by a procession with small shrines and a ritual sumo wrestling match.
