Local SakeMeijo Sake Brewery
Meijo Sake Brewery has been brewing sake since 1864, and has cultivated its techniques and traditions over the course of its near 150 year history. In 1961, seven Himeji breweries merged to form today's Meijo Brewery ("Famous Castle" Brewery), which is named after the world-famous Himeji Castle. Today, Meijo is a four season brewery, that combines traditional sake brewing with the latest equipment to brew sake throughout the year. This allows the brewery to produce high quality sake at a reasonable price. Completely different in type from mass-produced sakes is our Kakushi-shu, an unfiltered, unpasteurized sake that is produced only twice a year. This sake is not distributed to the general public and is only sold directly at our brewery or through our website, and gains more fans year after year as word of its excellence spreads. We have also registered the trademarks "Special Dry Kanbei," "Kanbei Nigori Sake," and "Kanbei Shiboritate" named after Kanbei Kuroda, a historical military commander with close ties to Himeji, and are developing them as part of the Kanbei series.
