Himeji FoodsEdo-ya Japanese Sweets, Nagomi
This third Edo-ya store opened in 2012.
This store has a café space and is named "Edo-ya Nagomi" ("nagomi" refers to a sense of calm and relaxation) in the hope that customers can enjoy Edo-ya's wagashi sweets in a relaxed environment.
Edo-ya offers a variety of creatively-constructed wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets), made with fresh, seasonal ingredients.
Of these, the Himeji specialty, Edo-ya Hon-Warabimochi, which has been selected as a five-star Hyogo Prefecture brand, is the most popular product here, and sells out every day - it also brings a line of customers at other events across Japan.
These products have captured the taste buds of many people in Kobe, Osaka, Kyoto, and other regions where we hold temporary events, and boast an astounding repeat customer rate.
In the summer and fall, Edo-ya makes daifuku sweets by wrapping a whole grape in the mochi of the daifuku to accentuate the freshness and juiciness of the grape.
From winter to spring, Edo-ya fills its daifuku with a special sweet bean paste and tops them with a whole freshly picked strawberry.
Fruit daifuku, which allows visitors to taste the deliciousness of the fruity fillings, is also very popular.
An original Edo-ya Pudding Daifuku is also on offer: a whole piece of Edoya's special old-fashioned pudding wrapped in the daifuku. It was even featured on the Japanese TV show, MBS' "Chin Chin Pui Pui."
There are also several unusual products, like bamboo shoot monaka (a kind of wafer cake filled with bean jam) and bamboo shoot yokan ikura (a jellied dessert made with red beans) that take advantage of the bamboo shoots of Oichi, Himeji, one of the most famous bamboo shoot production areas in Japan.
