MuseumsFamilyAzuki Bean Museum
This museum is all about azuki, or sweet red beans, a key ingredient in the well-known traditional Himeji sweet "gozasoro," and the museum is run by the very company that makes these sweets.
Azuki beans have long been considered a treasured and essential food item used in Japanese ceremonies throughout the year and other various ceremonial rites of passage.
In order to pass on this cultural heritage to future generations, this museum has become the first in Japan to focus on azuki beans, to explore, pass on, and continue the creation of the culture surrounding these beans.
In the center of a space with a model ten times life size, the museum contains exhibits that focus on this single, small red bean from a variety of angles, from botanical, to agricultural, to folk wisdom.
Visitors can enjoy more than half a day of leisurely exploration of the azuki bean's roots through diorama images, theater screenings, and more.
