MuseumsHimeji City Water Museum “Mizu no Yakata”
The Waterworks Museum ("Mizu-no-kan" or Water Museum) outlines the history of how drinking water has been obtained, explains the water purification technology that supports our daily lives today, and allows visitors to learn about the footprints of Himeji's water supply system and its future. The exterior of the museum is uniquely shaped like two cylinders joined together to resemble water containers, and inside, it is composed of three exhibition halls and a conference room. The first exhibition hall has a full-length glass ceiling with water flowing over it, through which light pours down to create an underwater-like atmosphere. In each exhibition room, quizzes, games, and experiments allow both children and adults to enjoy learning about the relationship between water and their daily lives.
