      This memorial tower was erected to commemorate the more than 500,000 civilians who died in the Pacific War.
The tower is shaped like a sword, a symbol of weapons generally, thrust into the ground to represent a vow for a future without war: "No more wars, swords are never to be drawn in the name of war again." Every year on October 26, a peace ceremony is held to commemorate the victims of air strikes throughout the war's Pacific theater.
