HistoryTearayama Exchange Office

Designed as a part of reconstruction after the war, to help alleviate traffic and expand the city, as well as to connect industrial areas in the southern part of the city and residential areas in the north, the Himeji Monorail connected to the Himeji Central Grand Exposition Center starting in 1966. The line connected 1.6 km between what was then the National Railway's Himeji Station, and Teragayama Station. Teragayama Station was remodeled, the remaining monorail cars were serviced, and put on display. On April 29th, 2011, the Teragayama Exchange Station was opened in Teragayama Central Park, a facility that was a local meeting place, information center, and a part of efforts towards greening in the city. The area also has a mini-corner summarizing the history of Himeji's public transportation system and a diorama exhibition corner on the Himeji Grand Exposition Center (Central Hall), allowing not only railroad enthusiasts but also the whole family to fully enjoy Himeji as it was before.
The Himeji City Aquarium, which requires a separate entrance fee, is also located within the same building, and allows visitors can see the aquatic creatures of the Harima region.
During the spring and autumn holidays, joint events are held across the faciltiies in Teragayama. There's a lot to learn from one facility to the next!
