Koko-en Garden (Garden of Himeji Castle's Western Residence), is a traditional Japanese walking garden that opened in 1993 with a backdrop of World Heritage Site, Himeji Castle.
The garden is built on land that excavations confirmed had once been the location of Himeji Castle's Western Residence, samurai residences, and old streets, and includes nine gardens for visitors to enjoy, each offering a different charm.
The garden's Edo period (1603-1868) atmosphere has been used as a filming location for historical dramas and episodes of Japan's annual historical TV epics.
Matcha tea service is available in the sukiya style tea house, Soju-an (500 yen per seat). In In the restaurant, Kassui-ken, you can also look out on a view of the garden as you eat.
